The Russian Black Terrier breed was born in Russia in the second half of the 1940s. The Russian Black Terrier was created by the following dog breeds crossing: Rottweiler, Giant Schnauzer, Airedale Terrier, and Newfoundland. The Giant Schnauzer can be defined as the main ancestor of the breed. The beginnings of breeding were supervised by a Moscow military dog school and the dogs were home to the kennel "Red Star". The breeders aimed at developing a large, brave, powerful and manageable work dog with a strong guarding and protective instinct.
