Mop Dog Breeds - Dogs That Look Like A Mop

What is the breed of dog that looks like a mop? What kind of dog has hair like dreadlocks?

Mop-looking dogs have also been referred to as “mop dogs” in the past but today people are more likely to call them “dreadlock dogs” because of their unique coat. Some of the breeds that are closely related to mop dogs include the Bedlington Terrier, Bergamasco, and Poodle.

Dreadlock Dogs have a very thick undercoat of hair which makes their fur stand on end year-round. This gives them a shaggy, unkempt appearance that has earned dreadlock dogs the nickname Mop Dogs. The coat of a Mop Dog is usually black, white, or a mix of both colors. Mops can also have different colored eyes and some even have two different colored eyes which makes them stand out from the rest of the Mop Dogs.

Do mop dogs shed?

A Mop Dog is a dog with dreadlocks which are formed by shaving the dog, then growing its coat out into locks. Unlike other dogs that must be brushed to keep them tangle-free, Mops need only occasional grooming with a pair of scissors – but they require more care in colder months when they need warm dry houses and sweaters or coats to protect their skin from the cold. Mop Dogs typically have very soft hair which makes them shed less than other breeds because it doesn't stick as much to furniture, clothing, and carpets as others types of fur do.

The upper mop dog breeds info and list give you the answers to the following questions:

  • How big are mop dog breeds?
    • Mop dog breeds are usually medium size dogs and have a variety of different grooming styles.
  • How big do mop dog puppies get?
    • Mop dogs puppies can grow to any size. Mop dog breeds don't have a set height and weight range like other short-haired dog breeds.
  • Do mop dog breeds like water? Can mop dogs swim?
    • Mop dog breeds like water. Mop Dogs are known for the long strings of hair that can sometimes look like Mops sticking out of their heads. Mops are often used to soak up liquid spills and mops always need WATER to clean! Mop Dog Breeds is a name given to dogs that resemble Mops in appearance, but often Mop Dogs also love playing with water like other breeds. So yes .... they do like water!
  • Can a mop dog be left alone?
    • Mop dogs can be left alone. Mops are generally some of the most friendly breeds out there and they're pretty good at taking care of themselves when left home alone. Mop dogs are so gentle-natured that they don’t have hunting instincts, nor do they have strong herding or chasing instincts, so it is unlikely for them to roam very far away from their property if left unattended.
    • One thing to keep in mind is that your Mop Dog may enjoy being outside with you sometimes more than being in during rainy days, snowy days, or hot days depending on their breed.
  • Do mop dogs shed? Do mop dog breeds need to be groomed? How to groom mop dog breeds?
    • Keep them clean: Mop dog breeds need the same level of grooming as any other pup - time and attention. Groomers recommend brushing often, but at least two or three times a week for general upkeep.
    • Vacuum the hair: Mop dogs do shed all year round. To make sense of it all, groomers like to use an old-fashioned "pantry vacuum cleaner" (a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment).
